Inauguration of Young BPW Lite Club
Event Details
Part of actualizing this is through collaborative partnership which is key and one of such is the Business and Professional Women of Nigeria (BPW). Being a collaborative partner has developed over the years especially as BPW shares similar vision regarding education, women and family and also encouraging ways to elevate through entrepreneurship and empowerment.
BPW develops the business, professional and leadership potential of women on all levels through advocacy, education, mentoring, networking, skill building, and economic empowerment programs and projects around the world. In pursuance of the vision of BPW Nigeria to empower women and girls, the BPW are establishing Young BPW Lite Clubs in Secondary schools by BPW Clubs across the nation.
Partnering with this initiative dovetails with the mission of Inspire Hope. Inspire Hope Foundation working with the local BPW Abuja Cosmo club is a proud supporter of this laudable program to encourage youth leadership by developing youth clubs that encourage reading, literacy, leadership and entrepreneurship inaugural program in Secondary schools. The 1st of such Young BPW Club is in LEA Junior Secondary School, Wuse Zone 6 that we are so proud to be involved in its creation, development and sustenance.
Yinka Ajibowaje, the National President BPW after various visits to the Principal of the school obtained a short list of students who were individually interviewed by the panel (National President and the 3 Young BPW ladies) selecting 25 girls. These youths are being encouraged to develop their own Governance and act as a mini club, interact, develop projects and priorities.
Inspire Hope Foundation is proud to support the procurement of books to help guide and develop reading skills and broadening of horizons emphasizing the importance of reading and theme of “Readers are Leaders”.
The girls were excited and very engaged in participating in the program. Inspire Hope Foundation supported the acquisition of a reading list and procurement of the selected books by African authors Purple Hibiscus, Half of a Yellow Sun and The Thing Around Your Neck by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Arrow of God by Chinua Achebe. The message being the authors are just like you and you can be just like them. Reading would help increase curiosity and broaden the mind.
